God’s Guidance

Psalm 148:3

Praise him, sun and moon; praise him, all you shining stars!

Lots of things are going on in the night sky. Millions of stars light up the night. Moons are rotating around planets. Planets are rotating around stars. Star systems are spinning. There are comets, asteroids, and meteors racing across space too. There’s also all those satellites orbiting our planet, and unmanned spacecraft out discovering the farthest reaches of our solar system. Space is a busy place.

We are able to learn about the heavens. In ancient times, sailors used a tool called a sexton to help them navigate by the stars. Discoveries were made by watching the night sky over and over. Today we discover the heavens through telescopes, computers, and rocket ships.

Those rocket ships have guidance systems built into them. Even though there is a pilot, much of the flying is left to the computer, so there is no error. In the movies, we see the control panel filled with lots of little colored lights. The pilot has to push a button to engage the auto pilot, before he sits back and lets the computer take control. Of course, that’s the movies, and the colorful control panel is just a prop. But the image speaks to our lives. We have a pilot, if we will just turn our life over to Him, the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 58:11

11 The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.
You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Isaiah 48:17

17 This is what the Lord says—your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel:
“I am the Lord your God, who teaches you what is best for you,
who directs you in the way you should go.

Pilots go through years of training to learn to fly these multi-billion dollar machines. But before they even get into training, those pilots have a lot of studying to do. They have manuals that have to be read, studied, and memorized even, before they can start to practice for their missions.

We have a manual to study too – The Bible.

We can learn about our pilot through studying Scripture and prayer. Would you like to have your life guided with the same precision as a rocket ship?

Psalm 16:11

You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

 Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 37:23-24

23 The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;
24 though he may stumble, he will not fall, for the Lord upholds him with his hand.

 Isaiah 30:21

21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Relax and let the Holy Spirit take over. This requires faith and trust, and getting to know your pilot.

Pilots often get only one shot at their mission in space. When you make a choice, you often can’t undo that choice. Remember that the pilot trains for months or even years for their missions. Be sure it’s God’s way before you commit to that particular path.

1 Corinthians 2:12

12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

May you hear the Voice of the Lord so you can follow His ways,
