Psalm 2:10-11

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.”

Holy God,

We thank you for those You have chosen to lead in our communities and the nation. You have given us leaders of many kinds for Your purposes. Fill their hearts with the desire to serve You by serving this nation’s people with honesty and integrity. Grant all our leaders the godly wisdom they need to handle the affairs of our nation and our communities in an honorable way, and to bless all the people. Let the people rejoice with good and godly leadership.

Amen.

Psalm 22:28

For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.

Most Precious Heavenly Father,

You are our King. You are in control of all things. Although You have placed some in leadership positions to govern us, we know it is You we must answer to for our actions. We lift up those in positions of leadership and ask You to give them the wisdom they need for these perilous times in which we now live. Raise up godly leaders to guide this nation justly and surround them all with counselors of great integrity and wisdom. Remove those who do not act in accordance with Your desires and laws. Help us to be obedient to those you have placed in charge of us where their laws and policies do not conflict with Your Word.

Amen.

Proverbs 21:1

“The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will.”

Father God,

You have chosen our leaders and given them power and authority to watch over us. They can use their authority for good or for evil. We ask You to guide our leaders and give them a godly vision of Your plans for this nation. Grant them wisdom to make plans for our country that will bless the populous, and maintain our freedoms to worship You openly. Soften their hearts so their desire is to truly help and encourage all our people. Help us use Your blessings to bless and encourage others as well.

Amen.

Psalm 67:3-4

“Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you! Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth.

Lord,

We lift up our praises and thanks to You for all You have given us and done for us. You have greatly blessed this nation and the people in it. Our prosperity is the envy of many. Guide us to be the country You envisioned. Quiet our spirits and help us sing Your praises and be satisfied with what You have given us. Help us to not be greedy, but to reach out and help others from Your bounty.

Amen.

Proverbs 29:4

By justice a king builds up the land, but he who exacts gifts tears it down.

Holy God,

We lift up our leaders again and pray they act justly in every circumstance. Guide their policies and interactions with other leaders so they may rule wisely, and with honesty and integrity. Help them put policies in place that will build up this nation and her people. Give our leaders the vision of what this nation can become if we follow You. Touch our leaders to not put too high of a financial burden on the people, but only what is necessary for the common good.

Amen.

Hebrews 13:17

Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.

Most Precious Heavenly Father,

We are a people who want to do our own thing and forget those around us. Help us remember to be thoughtful and compassionate to others, considering their needs before ours. Remind us to be obedient and work diligently for all those in authority over us. Help us to be joyful in our service to the leaders you have given us, and remind us to not to complain about our circumstances for you are ultimately in control. Grant great wisdom to those in authority over us so they lead in a godly manner.

Amen.

Romans 13:7

Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.”

Heavenly Father,

Help us to obey and honor those you have put in authority over us. Guide us to behave with honesty and integrity regarding our debts and to not withhold what is due. Help us to pay fairly for all our goods and services because the laborer is due his wages. Help us to show appropriate respect and honor to those in authority over us, because you choose to give us these leaders. Where there is disagreement, remind us to be respectful, and when a decision is made, to obey.

Amen.
