This time of year we re-read the Christmas stories (Matthew 1:18-2:12 and Luke 2:1-39) and celebrate the coming of our Lord and Savior, as we should. When the light of Jesus Christ penetrates our hearts, we see ourselves and our need for the Savior. We realize this gift is salivation and eternity with God, and we rejoice.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Do we realize the light of Christ will do more than give us eternity? Jesus also gives us life in the present, and gives it abundantly (John 10:10, John 14:6). So what is abundant life?
The word abundant means “in great quantity, more than adequate, richly supplied.” This is the type of life our Lord wants us to have here and now. When we allow Jesus to light up our lives, the darkness is chased away. Then, Jesus will light the way for us to walk in His light all the days of our lives. Walking in his light will give us a rich, full, satisfying life.
Several years ago Debbie Boone recorded “You Light Up My Life.” The song was written as a romantic song, but if you listen to the lyrics you realize this is what Jesus does for us – He lights up our lives, and He is always with us.
As you enjoy the Christmas lights this holiday season, remember how much more Jesus wants to light up your life, if you let Him.
