What is inspiration?
It is the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something creative (Google search).
So where does the stimulation come from? There are many, many muses: music, books, poetry, and thousands of spots in nature.
How about God as your inspiration?
Some mornings I have no idea what I’m going to write about when I first sit down at the computer. Generally, that’s a scary thought for a writer. Over the last several months, I have learned not to worry about it too much. I’m counting on inspiration from God, and He never fails to give me some idea to write about.
My biggest inspiration didn’t start out that way however – or at least I didn’t see it as inspiration at the time. It started out as restlessness. I didn’t realize God had planted a dream in my heart, so for a while I was wondering why I had a head full of interesting, and seemingly disconnected thoughts.
I had to learn to quiet my soul and be still. If you want inspiration from God, you have to learn to be still and listen to God.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Once I learned to be quiet and began to listen, the inspiration began to flow. I had so many ideas. Thoughts and Scripture references were coming to me so quickly; I couldn’t type fast enough to keep up with the flow of ideas.
Through God’s inspiration, He took me on an incredible journey. I think He wants to do that for each of us. Our Lord has created each one of us to do something unique. There is something only you can do.
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
Are you going to be still and let God inspire you?
