Sharing The Faith With Our Kids

Recently, several women I know have either just had babies or just became pregnant. These women are Christians and will bring up their children much like Lois and Eunice did. There is not much Scripture about Lois and Eunice, but what we do learn is power packed:

2 Timothy 1:5

I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

From this one verse, we learn that these women passed their faith on to Timothy in such a way that Paul was able to use him in ministry.

What are we doing to pass on the faith to our children and the next generation? It is becoming more difficult as we battle a culture that is anti-Christian. But we are commanded to share our faith (Matthew 28:16-20) starting at home.

The answer I think is found in Deuteronomy 6:7, talking about God’s commands: Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. We should take every opportunity to instruct our children in the ways of the Lord. Didn’t someone take the time to instruct us?

Paul himself, among the last lines he wrote on this earth, reminded Timothy to continue to pass on the faith: “But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:14-15).

Blessings on your day.
