RETHINKING BIRTHDAYS

While my family spoiled me this weekend it occurred to me, we don’t just celebrate our actual birthday anymore. Now we celebrate a birthday week or at least a birthday weekend. Apparently one day a year isn’t enough. But here’s a thought. Maybe we shouldn’t celebrate our birthday at all, but rather, celebrate the ones who gave us life?

How different the world would be if our narcissistic society began to show thoughts of gratitude towards those who helped them along the way. It’s hard to imagine a world full of such kindness. Maybe that’s what heaven is like.

  1. I have to tell you Sister Julie, this is a very wise and profound thought, in all my “almost” 61 years, I have never thought like that. I have tried to “refuse” birthdays as just another day in the Lord, but never as to use that day as bestowing honor on my parents! The Holy Spirit is truly Awesome in His leading and prompting! Thanks so much for making me think! 😉
God bless you Sis, continually and richly for your service (ministry) to us all!

  2. we love to celebrate birthdays at my house … not over the top, but acknowledge the fact that God did a marvelous work when He created that person … and made it for such a unique purpose … Thank you for the thought-provoking post! Blessings to you!
