I return to work today. I’m trying to stay focused on what we just celebrated, our Lord’s birth. I know it will be difficult. The daily routine of life underscores the need for our Savior. But it’s too easy to get caught up in the phone calls, meetings, paperwork, and deadlines that come with any job. Then there are family obligations. We come home exhausted. Instead of seeking spiritual refreshment, we tend to turn to the TV or look for other entertainment. I’m not saying those are bad things. I’m just saying that perhaps when we are most exhausted, is when we need the rest and encouragement more than any other time. May I suggest the rest and peace God has to offer?

There’s Biblical precedence to rest:

Mark 6:31 (HCSB)

He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a remote place and rest for a while.” For many people were coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.

It’s a blessing to enjoy the presence of God. Close your eyes and relax in the palm of your Father’s hand. He will give you peace.

John 14:27 (NIV)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

As you return to the normal routine of daily life, make some quiet time for the Lord, and find refreshment for your soul.

Walk in His Light,

  1. As I read scripture on rest and honestly, as I have experienced in my own life, it is evident to me that rest is rarely placed in our lap. We must intentionally plan and prepare for rest, or it will be siphoned away by ‘the cares of this world.’

  2. Peaceful post. It is important to unplug from the world as often as possible if we are to maintain our spirituality. We must lock up and lock out life for at least long enough to get ahold of God. For our peace comes from Him.
